Beta-hexosaminidase paper accepted

20th Jan, 2012

Good news for the start of the year with the acceptance of our paper on the role of beta-hexosaminidase activity in the formation of biofilms on glycoprotein surfaces in FEMS Immunology and Medical Microbiology.

This paper outlines the influence of inhibition of this activity using the inhibitor PugNac and reveals that adhesion to sub-terminal sugars such as glucosamine and galactosamine play a role in biofilm formation by Tannerella, but only once the sialidase has already removed the terminal sialic acid residue.

Congrats to the group on getting this turned around so fast.
